Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres

San Diego scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to erase a 4-2 deficit and beat Washington 5-4 at Petco Park. Casey Mize gave the Padres five and two-thirds innings, punching out seven and allowing three earned runs on 90 pitches. His ERA now sits at 3.70. The Nationals scratched across single runs in the second on a Yohandy Morales solo shot and in the sixth when Brady House doubled home two. Andrés Chaparro added a solo homer in the eighth to stretch the lead to two. Then the Padres flipped the script. Austin Hays drove in one with a sacrifice fly, then Manny Machado singled home two to tie it, and Luis Campusano singled in the walk-off run. Mize recorded seven strikeouts, three above the model projection for Elvin Cornelio, who struck out four. The NRFI model had a lean on no runs in the first but Morales homered in the second, so the inning itself was clean.
