Pittsburgh Pirates at Chicago White Sox

The Pirates shut out the White Sox 2-0 at Rate Field, riding Jared Jones through seven scoreless frames and a two-run performance from Oneil Cruz. Jones struck out eight over seven innings on 90 pitches, allowing no runs and lowering his ERA to 4.10. He was efficient and methodical, never allowing Chicago to threaten. Cruz provided all the offense Pittsburgh needed. He homered in the fourth inning, a fly ball to center field that gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Then in the eighth, Cruz singled to right field, driving in Jared Triolo to extend the margin to two. Cruz finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. The K model had Jones projected at eight strikeouts. He delivered exactly that. The NRFI model leaned toward a scoreless first inning, but the frame produced scoring. Hunter Smith struck out three for Chicago in relief. Mason Montgomery picked up the save. Erick Fedde took the loss for the White Sox. Spencer Horwitz went 1-for-3 and Triolo 1-for-2 with a run for Pittsburgh.
