San Diego Padres beat San Francisco Giants 6-4 at Oracle Park. Wandy Peralta earned the win; Logan Webb took the loss. Yuki Matsui recorded the save.
The Padres beat the Giants 6-4 at Oracle Park, scoring all six runs in the first two innings and holding on behind three relievers. San Diego never trailed after Jackson Merrill doubled home two in the first. Nick Pivetta worked four innings for San Diego, striking out five and allowing two earned runs on 69 pitches. His ERA sits at 3.60. Logan Webb took the loss after surrendering six earned runs over five innings, fanning seven on 92 pitches. His ERA climbed to 4.31. Manny Machado homered in the second, a two-run shot to left that scored Fernando Tatis Jr. and pushed the lead to 5-0. Tatis went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, including an RBI single in the second and another in the fourth. Andrew Knizner answered with a two-run homer for the Giants in the bottom of the second, his second of the season. Pivetta recorded five strikeouts. Webb struck out seven. The NRFI model carried a lean, and the first inning was scoreless before San Diego broke through in the top of the first with Merrill's two-run double.
Fernando Tatis Jr. collected three hits and drove in two runs, scoring twice in San Diego's six-run first two frames.
Logan Webb allowed six earned runs in five innings, walking none but surrendering five hits and a Machado home run that sealed the early deficit.
